They Think It’s All Over

Well it is for another year at least!

Yet again CVA have delivered a first class football tournament, 8 years in and we are still attracting teams new and old, all can see the value of this innovative multi-agency tournament which aspires to reduce stigma, promote inclusion and strengthen our diverse community. Who would have thought that the humble game of football was capable of such great things?

The stalwarts of the tournament playing for the 8th year in a row were; Chester Aid to the Homeless (CATH), Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC), Cheshire Police, Stonham and Bridge Foyer. The last couple of years has seen the regular involvement of Forum Housing, Foundation Enterprise and P3 and this year the newcomers were Brands Solutions one of our SkillShare businesses who are currently midway through their year of volunteering at CATH.

Whilst we would like to think it was not about the winning but the taking part, try telling CWaC that who were fiercely competitive yet worthy winners, just pipping CATH to the post despite the gallant effort of their CEO, Robert Bissett.

Gary Smith a Project Officer from Bridge Foyer, who played in the tournament with a number of their tenants shared his thoughts

“It’s no exaggeration to say that the tournament is one of the main events in the Bridge Foyer calendar. The build-up provides an opportunity for our residents to train together, get fitter and make new friendships within the scheme.

The reaction post-tournament is always the same – “when can we do this again”?

The tournament has become a staple event in the CVA calendar and its something that we are keen to keep doing as long as teams keep wanting to get involved. If you would like to get involved next year please contact Clare Harrison
